The History of Our Guild

On a snowy February 14th in 1940 a group of 15 dedicated weavers gathered in one of their homes to form what would become the Weaver's Guild of Pittsburgh (WGP).

The WGP along with several other guilds founded the  Pittsburgh Center of the Arts (PCA) and offered classes, public lectures, social events, gallery shows, and began the annual Holiday sale.  Many of these activities still continue at the PCA.

There are WGP members teaching classes in the Weaving Studio located on the 3rd floor of the PCA.

Guild members have visited area attractions, such as the Pittsburgh Zoo, demonstrating spinning and weaving and fiber identification to children and adults visiting the llamas and sheep at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

One of  those weavers who started the WGP wasHarriet Jenny.   Harriet passed away in 2002 but her legacy of weaving will live on through the guild that she helped start.  Her influence and friendship has touched so many throughout the 62 years she was a part of the Weaver's Guild of Pittsburgh.
