There will be no formal WGP summer meetings at Arlene Sakmar's Studio. In September we'll resume our regular evening meetings with a date to be determined. Arlene asks that anyone with a sampler in progress please attempt to finish soon so that the looms may be used by others. Contact her to arrange a time to weave your samples. If you have missed meetings or haven't
started your samples, this might be a good time for you to work on your
samples. And Arlene's studio is a great place to spend a pleasant
morning or afternoon weaving! |

August August’s meeting will be a weaving gathering at Nancy Bishop’s Little House and is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 24. Please RSVP to Nancy. We have several things planned: video, weaving sample set up on a loom and triangular shawl weaving demonstration.
Miscellaneous • Last month we put out feelers for any interest in visiting an alpaca farm near Butler, PA but had little response, so we’ve decided to postpone this field trip for later this year. • Marty Carrier and woodworker husband Wind recently opened The Heartbeat, an eclectic new store on Perry Highway, North Hills. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by to see their ceremonial drums made in the Native American tradition, dream catchers, medicine bags, artwork, greeting cards and other items. Marty keeps her loom there as well and invites all to join her for weaving, spinning and chitchat. Marty and Wind also sell or re-home discarded-then-rehabilitated items in an effort to reduce landfill content. For more info, call Marty at 412-720-5356 or email pantherblues@hotmail.com |

✓ postage stamp-sized steak at Ruth's Chris ✓ quarter tank of gas (at last count) ✓ 2008 Weavers' Guild of Pittsburgh membership! Let's talk about lasting value...a crummy steak, overpriced petrol, or evenings spent with likeminded friends. Workshops where you can freely admit that you've never figured out how to warp that thing. Programs of creative and cultural value where none of your non-weaver friends would be caught dead. An environment where dreadful puns such as "I'll be seeing ewe" and "weave me alone" are uttered and everyone gets the joke. All of this could be yours for $15. Need we go on? OK, then. We could go the businesslike route and mention that the guild needs to maintain an accurate roster count. We could go the guilt inflicting route and indignantly state that it takes MONEY to keep our guild going and a bake sale won’t cut it. We could go the administrative route and mention that if you plan to remain a member, please use the self-addressed stamped envelope and enclosed response form. We could do all of the above. Instead, we'll leave it to your creative spirit to find a pen, write the check and mail it. Today, post-haste. Do it. You'll feel better. We promise. Mail your dues check, payable to Weavers Guild of Pittsburgh, to Nancy Bishop, 4707 Campbells Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. Please also state if you want to receive newsletters by e-mail or USPS. |
